The More We Get Together

No, we didn't just get a video camera. We are just now stealing (notice I did not say "having") the time to do something with all the footage.

Race Day

I used to run...often and far. Then I got pregnant with triplets and was restricted from running and other physical activity. Then I went on bedrest for about 3 months and gained 70 pounds. This was very hard for me, a personal trainer who can't sit still. Of course it was worth it but getting back in shape has been a tough journey. Running has been by far the hardest to get back into. I take the babies jogging about 3x per week and squeeze in 2 other days of weights and cardio either while the kids nap or after they go to bed. I've accepted that I won't be able to run as far and as fast as I used to until years down the road, when I have the freedom to run 7-12 miles several times a week. I still enjoy running and finally ran my first post-baby 5K race this past weekend with Max and his co-workers. Max took the babies in the triplet jogger and let me run free...no babies attached :) Here are Max and the kids before the race:

The kids had so much fun and were perfect angels. Here is Mia being the silly clown she is:

Here is Marcus and I after the race. The kids opted to take in all the sights and people rather than take their morning nap. Marcus was very sleepy by late morning but still in good spirits.

On another note, we finally got a play yard to use in the backyard and when we take the babies places that aren't baby-proofed. Great concept but here is what the kids do as soon as I put them in it.
I immediately have to pry them off the walls when they realize they are stuck and start to cry. I suppose it is still nice to be able to coral them outdoors.

I Spy Three Babies

Can you find all three in the picture below:

(Josie is in the top right pulling up on the dining room chair, Marcus is on his way to join her and Mia is climbing on the box of wipes in the bottom left)

It is time for me to stop searching for that perfect baby barricade on Craiglist and get this house totally baby-proofed. As I suspected, Josie has hopped on the crawling bandwagon with a vengeance. Just like that, she has overtaken her brother and sister and with perfect form. I let them out of the corral (playroom) for an hour or so a day to roam the downstairs. They have a blast together.
Needless to say, we have had to lower the kiddos cribs all the way down. I used to think the kiddos would not be walking by their first birthday. I am begining to think otherwise.

I love the kids at this age. They are so much fun! Although, Mia's teething drama is wearing me down a tad. She really does take after her daddy :)

Different Strokes for Different Folks

My children have 3 very different personalities. Take lunch for example, Marcus is very serious about eating. He opens his mouth extremely wide and is very impatient. Mia sits there perfectly content waiting for her turn. Both Mia and Marcus eat anything and loads of it. Here are Marcus and Mia after finishing a meal.

Josie is a little different when it comes to eating. She is very picky and dramatic. She eats very little and she lets us know if she is not happy about the taste, texture or temperature of her food. On top of that, she seems to think food belongs all over her face, not just in her mouth. Mealtimes with Josie are a production, as you can see....

Cute Babies

Today was a gorgeous 80 degrees! Here is Mia crawling away. She has been unstoppable lately.
Josie is very aware of her body lately. She is constantly trying new things with her legs and arms and pulling up on anything she can.
Cute, enough said.
Handsome, and sporting Carolina Blue.
Neither Max nor I have blue eyes but Josie has taken after her grandpas and Uncle Luke.
This weekend, our good friends Rosa and Brian from Richmond came and visited with their 18 month old daughter, Aubrey. She was adorable and very good with the triplets. Marcus was especially drawn towards her.

Mommy Brain x 3

I am slowly losing my mind. Something crazy happened the other night. I heard Marcus babbling in his crib and woke up and looked at my watch. It was 7 AM and I felt completely refreshed! I had not heard a peep out of the kids all night. I gleefully got up and prepped bottles. Like we do every morning, we gathered in the girls room for bottles, diaper changes and playtime. Although Marcus and Mia were in a great mood, Josie was very reluctant to get up. Once she finally decided to join the land of the living, her nor Marcus would drink their bottles. Oh well. Everyone was happily crawling around the room and babbling up a storm. We sang some songs, read some books and about an hour later it was time to go downstairs for breakfast. By this time Marcus was VERY fussy. I made a mental note to replace the battery in the girl's clock because I noticed it was stopped at 2:30. And, I noticed we must have gotten enough snow to cancel everything because my usual morning show was not on the radio.

I went to wake Max up to help me get the kids downstairs and noticed it was still very dark outside (I keep the blinds closed in the girls room). I looked back down at my watch and...DEVASTATION! It was in chrono mode...I had started my workout the night before exactly 7 hours ago. I switched to the correct mode and OH MY GOSH, IT WAS 3 AM! I got my triplets up at 2:00 AM, fed them and played with them for an hour! It is amazing how quickly your mood can change. No wonder the clock was "stuck" and my radio show was not on (we did get snow). After some moments of mortification I gathered myself together and put the kids back to bed. Marcus was asleep as soon as his head hit his mattress. The girls also quickly went back to sleep.

Thank heavens I didn't start a new routine...playtime at 3 AM. How humiliating. This story s a great example of triplet mommy brain.

8 Months and the Games Begin

Everyone says it. We all know it. But wow do babies grow up fast. Months 1-3 seemed to last forever. There were so many days were I was ready to throw in the towel. Months 4-8 have been a blur, a very entertaining blur. Don't get me wrong, there are certainly still days that I barely get a chance to brush my teeth but there are others where I find time to make my own baby food.

These days the house is filled with screams of delight. We try to be conspicuous at the grocery store but when Mia is squealing like a little diva as people walk by, it is hard to go unnoticed. The joys of 8 month olds :)

And, we have our first official crawler...

Mia is everywhere. Our tiny 2.5 lb 33 week baby is the first to develop hand/knee coordination. This little princess also has her first tooth.

Baby Josie is not far behind Mia. She has taken a few tentative knee/arm movements forward but she can go backward like a champ. She is known to get stuck under the couch and back herself into corners. She gracefully sits herself up from her hands and knees. Yesterday she made it across the room and plopped herself into sitting right in front of the tv. Go figure. No teeth yet for Josie.
Momma's boy Marcus has found a quicker way to move than crawling. This boy began rocking on his hands and knees months ago but just can't seem to get the crawling down. He now propels himself across the room by numerous face-dives. It's fast and it works. He also easily pushes himself into a sitting position and has TWO teeth.

Besides the screams of delight, we also have screams from bumps. But, I know this is only the beginning of head buts, hair pulling and topples. Let the games begin.
